Before our LEAP Student Advocates begin supporting students across our partner schools, they first spent time investing in something just as important—their own well-being.
At this year's LEAP kickoff, staff participated in an interactive 8 Dimensions of Wellness experience designed to help them reflect on the many areas that contribute to a healthy, balanced life. Rather than viewing wellness as simply physical health, advocates explored how emotional, social, intellectual, occupational, financial, environmental, spiritual, and physical wellness all work together to influence how we show up each day.
The experience challenged staff to look inward before looking outward. Through collaborative discussions, personal wellness assessments, and rotating wellness stations, each advocate identified areas where they are thriving, recognized areas needing greater attention, and developed realistic personal goals focused on their own wellness journey. Instead of creating broad resolutions, participants left with intentional, achievable goals they can carry with them throughout the school year.
At LEAP, we believe that caring for those who care for others is essential. Student Advocates spend each day helping young people navigate challenges, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to be successful. To do that well, they must also be fully present, engaged, and whole themselves. When the adults supporting students prioritize their own wellness, they are better equipped to build authentic relationships, remain resilient through challenges, and create safe, supportive environments where students can thrive.
The school year is filled with opportunities to pour into others, but this training served as an important reminder that we cannot pour from an empty cup. By beginning the year with intentional reflection and personal wellness planning, our LEAP team is laying the foundation for a year of meaningful connections, compassionate support, and lasting impact for the students and schools we serve.
