MEMORIAL HOSPITAL INVITES TEENS TO STOMP OUT STIGMA

MEMORIAL HOSPITAL INVITES TEENS TO STOMP OUT STIGMA

Carthage, IL – On Wednesday, June 22, from 1-4 PM, there will be a
“Stomp out Stigma” event held on the lawn in front of Memorial Hospital in Carthage. This
is a free event for teens ages 14-18.

The Mental Health team, Shellie Wear, MSN, APN, PMHNP-BC, and Tammy Teel,
LCPC, from Memorial Medical Clinic in Carthage, will be offering an engaging event that will
include an obstacle course challenge, treats from Chef Jake, and more. There will also be a
cooling station that will involve getting wet. “Come out and join us in the fight against
mental health stigma by learning to overcome obstacles and work together,” says Tammy
Teel, LCPC. Memorial Hospital is located at 1454 North County Road 2050 in Carthage.

Stomp out Stigma is an initiative organized by the Association for Behavioral Health
and Wellness (ABHW) to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and substance use
disorders. This campaign challenges us to transform the dialogue on mental health and
addiction by turning a whisper or even silence into a conversation. Stomp out Stigma aims
to encourage people to talk about mental illnesses and substance use disorders by having a
better view of the two and not being afraid of the stigma surrounding them. When we do
this together, we can reduce the stigma.
