  • Restorative circles are powerful tools for strengthening classroom community, teaching essential social-emotional skills, and addressing conflict in ways that promote healing and accountability. This training provides a step-by-step guide to implementing restorative circles in classrooms—from proactive community-building to responsive circles that help set things right when harm occurs.

Participants will explore how consistent use of circles can create calmer, more focused learning environments, support positive behavior, and reduce reliance on punitive discipline practices. Whether you're new to restorative practices or looking to refine your approach, this session offers both foundational theory and practical application to support your journey toward a more connected, restorative school culture.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the benefits of Restorative Practices in schools for both students and staff

  • Define Restorative Practices in the context of school-wide implementation

  • Examine research on why restorative approaches outperform punitive discipline

  • Explore the shift from punitive responses (e.g., suspension, expulsion) to restorative school culture

  • Learn foundational concepts such as the Social Discipline Window, Fair Process, Compass of Shame, and Affective Language

  • Practice leading circles for community-building and problem-solving

  • Get introduced to key circle formats, including sequential and non-sequential models
