DESCRIPTION:
Mentoring of First & Second-Year ROE #33/ROE #26 Teachers
Why is mentoring so important: There are not enough educators to fill all of our positions, so our goal is to keep those educators that we are fortunate enough to hire. We feel that the best way to do that is to offer them support, collegiality, and collaboration as a first or second-year teacher. Through this program, we will be providing an avenue for personal and professional growth, which will allow these new teachers to build the self-confidence they need in order to be effective educators. Our goal is to provide the resources that these new teachers need in order to reach their capacity and to grow in the profession.
What does this program look like: As part of the mentoring and induction program, teachers will meet monthly for (1 hour) as a group to discuss preplanned topics, as well as engage in conversations around topics and questions submitted by the participants. These meetings will be held remotely via Zoom. Topics will be presented in the month that most closely aligns with when that information will be needed. Teachers will be assigned a mentor to receive 1-1 mentoring via a phone call/virtual meeting at a time of their choosing, allowing personalized, ongoing support. Teachers can also email or call throughout the month should they have questions or need additional support. Throughout the year, mentors will share resources such as articles, slides, docs, etc. that will support the new teachers in their growth.
