  • Now more than ever, it is critical to the identity development of students for their various funds of knowledge to be elevated from an asset-based viewpoint that not only allows them to hold their lived experiences as a valid ways of "knowing", but which also seeks to transform the educational space into one that assists students in developing a positive sense of self-worth and dignity. 2023 Illinois Teacher of the Year Briana Morales will share perspectives about the possibilities of empowering students with a personalized, competency-based education (CBE) framework as a means to revolutionize the way teaching, learning, and assessment can elevate student voice and choice, specifically in alternative education settings.
